About Us

Welcome To Akansha

Akansha is a dedicated charitable trust thatwas founded in 1988 with the idea of providing a healing touch to those who need it the most. Founded by professionals from various fields who shared a common vision of service, Akansha has been making a significant impact in the lives of special children and physically challenged individuals by empowering them to become useful members of the society.

BASIC ETHOS

Children with Disabilities (CwDs) account for almost 8 million individuals in India. Often faced with parental denial, social stigma and lack of access to rights and opportunities, this section of the Persons with Disability population experience multiple axes of marginalisation and vulnerabilities. This is only heightened by socio-economic factors including gender and caste

The word Mentally Challenged was coined to remove the societal taboo around these children. Today we refer to them as “DIVYANG” or in real sense, the “Exceptional Children”. These children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, Autism and Global Developmental Disorder are now recognised as children who have gifts differing from normal kids.

Our Journey

Akansha was established with a strong belief in the potential of every individual, regardless of their physical or mental challenges. Recognizing the unique needs of these individuals, we began our journey by providing specialized care and support. Our efforts were bolstered by the generosity of BHEL, Haridwar, which graciously allotted a building within their campus for our activities.

Over the years, as our children grew and their needs evolved, we realized the importance of equipping them with skills that would enable them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. This led to the expansion of our activities into the area of vocational training, paving the way for the establishment of our Sheltered Workshop.

Our Vision

We envision to enhance the quality of life of individual with special needs through education and training to enable them to achieve the fullest potential and integrate them into main stream to the extent possible.Akansha aims to be a beacon of hope and a source of empowerment, ensuring that no one is left behind
